Well.
I never thought this would be the circumstance we have found ourselves in, but alas.
Coming into the final 6, it seems like a brief pagonging of Gleason and Robbie would take place, by Will, Melody, Charlene and Austin. This rag tag group of four wanted to get Robbie out, and for good reason. He's played a great game and is in the good graces of everyone on the jury. Melody was skeptical of Austin, but was convinced that he was going to stick to their plan.
Austin had different plans.
The plan was a 2-2-2 vote. 2 for Robbie, 2 for Gleason and 2 for whomever Gleason and Robbie wanted. The strategy was to convince them to vote for one another and at worst, they would throw their votes on whomever they wanted.
Austin caught Robbie in the middle of the night and pitched a plan to get rid of Will; the coveted 3-2-1 vote. The plan was Austin would jump ship and save Robbie.
Melody and Charlene planned to tell the boys to vote Gleason and the girls would vote Robbie. The strategy was the girls were skeptical of Austin's relationship with Gleason, so making him write his name down would force him to go against a potential ally, thus proving loyalty. Throughout the day, the girls eventually thought it might be best to take out Gleason now, preventing anyone working with him down the road. Charlene would switch her vote and pull a Natalie Anderson ala Season 28 (Robbie if you're reading this, you haven't got to this vote, since you just started watching this season of Survivor, but this is the plan and I hope you realize this is what happened before the season ends lol).
The plan was for Melody and Charlene to pull a fast one over Austin, diminishing his power and making Robbie an even more popular target at Final 5. Their own 3-2-1 vote.
Will was being loyal, nonetheless. Everyone else had a plan but him, so it feels apropos that he was the victim of this tribal. Austin/Robbie/Gleason vote Will, Charlene/Will vote Gleason and Melody votes Robbie. Will gets sent home packing.
While Melody had the read on not wanting to trust Austin (even noting that she was skeptical of him leading up to the vote), she didn't do enough to save Will.
This puts Austin into a fairly powerful position, as now he has the full faith and trust of Robbie and Gleason since he saved them.
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but it should be worth noting that Melody's game has turned a 180 since Live Night. Giving Ben one of her idols, then voting him out took her from being the most definite winner of this season, to being on life support. Melody, they're coming after you. When you play your idol tonight, they will want nothing to do with you. If Charlene doesn't know about the idol, I don't know how she could justify keeping you, other than to give you the win. You've played a hell of a game and I hope there's a chance you have a realistic shot at winning, but it's worth noting how confusingly bad of a move giving Ben an idol on live night was.
